The Process

1. Contact the Rabbi.

Phone: (757) 624-1137
Cell: (757) 373-1733

2. The couple contacts and meets with the rabbi before the ceremony. If a long distance is involved then contact can be made by e-mail, telephone, letter exchange or a planned meeting at a mutually agreed upon place.  Parents and children and other family members are also urged to meet with the rabbi so that everyone can be supportive of the decisions made by the bride and groom.

The rabbi will provide premarital counseling sessions, if desired.  If further referral is necessary, the rabbi will offer several options for the couple, whether in the religious domain or the social service and psychological field. Premarital counseling with an experienced therapist is encouraged.  If you would like the name of an experienced clinician in your area, please let me know, as I have access to that information. Together, the couple and the rabbi will establish time, place and date and style of the religious—spiritual service.  We will determine together the outline of the service, the amount of Hebrew, singing, music, types of prayers, blessings, and other aspects of the ceremony. Candle-lighting of Shabbat lights and a unity candle can be included. Couple may also want to discuss whether other readers, singers or participants should be included.
